F.A.Q

Do you test your products on animals?

We do not test our products on animals.  We love to test them on ourselves and friends and family. For example, our dog soaps were tested by Petria's husband (who now has a very glossy coat...lol) and not on the four dogs that they owned at the time the dog soap was being developed.

Do you use lye (casutic) in your soap?

Yes, we do use lye in our soapmaking process.  We use sodium hydroxide in our soaps.  All soaps (excluding detergent bars, which are totally synthetic and chemical laden) are made with lye but no lye is left in the finished soap.  Our soaps are balanced so the chemical reaction has the correct amounts of both lye and oil for a balanced reaction.  The result is that our soap is very close to neutral.

What are the ingredients in your product?

We use the best ingredients that mother nature has to offer.  We have a full listing of ingredients posted on our website.

What is the shelf life of your products?

Because our products are natural it is best to use them up.  I have found Soaptopia Soap Bars that I have tucked away in a draw for two years and they are wonderful.  The scent fades over time but it is still a great bar of soap.  The lotions should probably be used within a year of the purchase date.  Keep all products out of direct sunlight and heat.  You can even put them in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life.

What do you use as preservatives?

Phenoxyethanol is our preservative of choice.  Why?  Because this preservative is non-formaldehyde releasing, is paraben free, sulphate free, propylene glycol free and DEA free.

Why do you use goats milk in some of your products?

Goats milk is ultra moisturising.  Goats milk contains capric, caprylic and capronic acids and natural occurring triglycerides, otherwise known as good fats.  The result is a pH level that is good for healthy human hair and skin, whil commercial soap can dry out the skin to the point where it feels taut and itchy.  The oil glands are then forced to counteract, overproducing oils in an attempt to rebalance the pH of the skin.  The result can be oily skin, clogged pores, black heads and pimples.
